The University of Central Florida has plans to hold a Light Up the Night event tonight, October 2, 2017 to kick off Domestic Violence Awareness month.
Scheduled speakers include the mother of a woman who was killed last December. That woman was pregnant and her ex-boyfriend stands accused of killing her. He is also accused of killing a police lieutenant who attempted to place him under arrest.
This is the 10th year for the ceremony that will be held in the Pegasus Ballroom of the Student Union. The event held by the university is free. Its goal is to encourage conversations and share resources of support for those who may need it.
